As there is a large difference in weight between minors and adults, the cremation industry usually divides ashes from people under the age of 18 into several estimation ranges in order to select the appropriate urn size more accurately.

The weight of ashes is still calculated based on the principle that they are about 3.5% of body weight. The following table shows the estimated volume and weight of urns for different age groups:
